Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Persian Season 1, Lesson 7 - Do You Speak English? In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask and answer the question ‘Do you speak English?’ in Persian.
Body
Eric: Here's the formal way to ask 'Can you speak English?' in Persian.
Mehrnaz: [Normal] میتونین انگلیسی صحبت کنین؟ (mitoonin ingilisi sohbat konin?)
Eric: First is a polite word meaning 'Can you'
Mehrnaz: [Normal] میتونین [Slow] میتونین (mitoonin)
Eric: Next is the word meaning 'English '
Mehrnaz: [Normal] انگلیسی [Slow] انگلیسی(ingilisi)
Eric: Last is the word meaning 'speak'
Mehrnaz: [Normal] صحبت کنین [Slow] صحبت کنین(sohbat konin)
Eric: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the formal question meaning 'Can you speak English?'

Eric: Here's the informal way to ask, 'Do you speak English?'

Eric: Listen again to the response, 'Yes, I can.'

Eric: Here's a response meaning, 'No, I can't.'
Mehrnaz: [Normal] نه، نمی تونم.(na, nemitoonam.)
Eric: First is a word meaning 'No'

Eric: Last is the word meaning 'I can't'
