INTRODUCTION |
Wherever your destination may be, manners are a must! Iran is no different. So in our very first lesson, we'll be teaching you a simple phrase that is bound to come in handy throughout your trip to Iran. I can’t stress this enough: A little bit of language can go a long way! |
BODY |
In Persian, “Thank you” is |
Tashakkor Mikonam |
Let’s break it down: |
(slow) Ta - Sha - KKor Mi – Kon - am. |
Once more: |
Tashakkor Mikonam. تشکر میکنم |
The first word, Tashakkor, means “thanks.” |
(slow) Ta - Sha - KKor |
Tashakkor تشکر |
After this comes Mikonam, meaning “ I do thank you.” |
(slow) Mi – ko - nam |
Mikonam میکنم |
All together, that’s |
(slow) Ta - Sha - KKor Mi – Kon - am. |
Tashakkor Mikonam. تشکر میکنم |
You can emphasize Tashakkor Mikonam by adding Kheili, which means literally “a lot” or “so much.” |
(slow) Kheili خیلی |
Kheili خیلی |
That makes Kheili Tashakkor Mikonam, which would be equivalent to “Thank you so much,” a politer expression than just Tashakkor Mikonam. تشکر میکنم |
Let’s break that down: |
(slow) Khe-ili Ta-sha-kkor Mi-ko-nam. خیلی تشکر میکنم |
Once more: |
Kheili Tashakkor Mikonam. خیلی تشکر میکنم |
There are other ways to express one’s gratitude in Persian, but they are all variations of Kheili Tashakkor Mikonam. خیلی تشکر میکنم |
・ |
There will be occasions when you will really want to show your appreciation and politeness. On these occasions, you should use the expression Tashakkor Mikonam. Another way to thank someone is Moteshakkeram, which is simply another form of the verb Tashakkor. |
So “Thanks” in Persian is |
Moteshakkeram. |
(slow) Moteshakkeram متشکرم |
Moteshakkeram متشکرم |
And “Many thanks” is |
Kheili Moteshakkeram. خیلی متشکرم |
Let’s break it down: |
(slow) Khei-li Mo-te-sha-kke-ram. |
Once more: |
Kheili Moteshakkeram. خیلی متشکرم |
The word, Kheili meaning “a lot”, is used to make the phrase more polite. |
This is followed by Moteshakeram, which means something like “thanks.” |
(slow) Mo-te-sha-kke-ram |
Moteshakkeram متشکرم |
All together, it’s |
(slow) Khe-li Mo-te-sha-kke-ram. |
Kheili Moteshakkeram. متشکرم |
