In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Persian learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native speaker. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question ‘Can you eat Iranian food?’ In Persian this is
Mehrnaz: می تونین غذای ایرانی بخورین؟
The first word in the question is
Mehrnaz: می تونین
Eric: meaning ‘can you’ in English.
Mehrnaz: (Slow, by syllable) می تونین
Eric: Listen again and repeat.

To say "no", in a simple way, just say:
Mehrnaz: نه، نمی تونم.
Eric: Which is like saying ‘No, I can't.’ in English. Let's hear it slowly.

Eric: And one more time at normal speed:
Mehrnaz: نه، نمی تونم.
Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting Iran and someone asks if you can eat Iranian food. You want to answer that it is delicious. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: می تونین غذای ایرانی بخورین؟ (five seconds) بله، خوشمزه اس
Eric: Now, you want to say that it's very delicious. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: می تونین غذای ایرانی بخورین؟ (five seconds) بله، خیلی خوشمزه اس
Eric: Now, you want to say that it's very diverse. Answer the speaker's question.
Mehrnaz: می تونین غذای ایرانی بخورین؟ (five seconds) بله، خیلی متنوع متنوع اس
Eric: Now, you want to say that it's terrific. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: می تونین غذای ایرانی بخورین؟ (five seconds) بله، فوق العاده اس
Eric: Now you want to ask someone if they can eat Iranian food. Ask the question
