In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Persian learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native speaker. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question Do you like Iranian food? In Persian this is
Mehrnaz: غدای ایرانی دوست دارین؟
The first word in the question is
Mehrnaz: غذای
Eric: meaning ‘food’ in English.

Eric: Listen again and repeat.

Eric: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is

Eric: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace Baghali Polo. Say ‘Yes, I especially love Ghormeh Sabzi.’

Eric: Listen to the phrase again, this time with Sabzi Polo ba Mahi.
Mehrnaz: بله، مخصوصا سبزی پلو با ماهی خیلی دوست دارم.
Eric: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the name Ghormeh Sabzi. Say ‘Yes, I especially love Sabzi Polo ba Mahi.’

Eric: To expand on the pattern, replace Sabzi Polo with Kebab.
Mehrnaz: کباب
Eric: Kebab

Eric: Listen to the phrase again, this time with Kebab
Mehrnaz: بله، مخصوصا کباب خیلی دوست دارم.
Eric: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace Sabzi Polo. Say ‘Yes, I especially love Kebab.’

Mehrnaz: بله، مخصوصا کباب خیلی دوست دارم.
To say "no", in a simple way, just say:
Mehrnaz: نه، دوست ندارم.
Eric: Which is like saying ‘No, I don't’. in English. Let's hear it slowly.
Mehrnaz: (Slowly) نه، دوست ندارم.
Eric: And one more time at normal speed:
Mehrnaz: نه، دوست ندارم.
Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting Iran and someone asks you if you like Iranian food. You want to answer that you like Baghali Polo. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: غدای ایرانی دوست دارین؟ (five seconds) بله، مخصوصا باقالی پلو خیلی دوست دارم.
Eric: Now you want to say that you like Ghormeh Sabzi. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: غدای ایرانی دوست دارین؟ (five seconds) بله، مخصوصا قورمه سبزی خیلی دوست دارم.
Eric: You want to say that you like Sabzi polo ba Mahi. Answer the speaker's question.
Mehrnaz: غدای ایرانی دوست دارین؟ (five seconds) بله، مخصوصا سبزی پلو با ماهی خیلی دوست دارم.
Eric: You want to say that you like Kebab. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: غدای ایرانی دوست دارین؟ (five seconds) بله، مخصوصا کباب خیلی دوست دارم.
Eric: Now you want to ask someone if they like Iranian food. Ask the question
