Persian Verbs
Much like the English language, Persian verbs have a number of different rules and forms. In order to learn how to speak Persian, it will be important to understand how to conjugate the words in both normal and abnormal forms. The Persian language is part of the Indo-European family of languages and it is a pluricentric language. This means that a great deal of the grammar, Persian verbs and terminology will follow the same rules as European languages.
The normal pattern for Persian verbs is very straightforward. With the exception of abnormal Persian words, the following pattern will be used: Neg-Dur – root – Past – Person – Accent or Subj/Imper – root – Past – Person – Accent. By following this pattern, most verbs can be conjugated properly.
It is important to note that some of the verb forms used in English are not used in the modern day Persian language. Conjugating Persian verbs will depend on knowing these forms. The forms that are no longer used for Persian verbs include the following: Indicative Imperfective Pluperfect, Indicative Imperfective Perfect, Subjunctive Imperfective Preterit, and Subjunctive Imperfective Pluperfect.
To get a better understanding of how to conjugate Persian verbs, here is a sample conjugation of the normal verb “to eat.” This Persian verb, in Romanized form, is khordæn. The present form of the term is mi-khoræm. The future form of the verb is khahæm khord. The past form of the word is khordæm. The Persian language uses different forms for passive and active voice as well.
The language also has a set of Persian verbs called compound verbs. These verbs are combined with a noun to create a different term. A good example of this would be the Persian word for “to speak” which is sohb?t keerdæn. The compound verb for “conversation” is another form of this verb, which is sohbæt. There are a number of compound Persian verbs, such as the Persian words for to think, to forget, to cry, to fix, and to call (on the telephone).
The Persian language may seem a little confusing when it comes to conjugating verbs. However, all that you need to do is choose to learn Persian through the right lessons.
